Dona A. Mason, Director

Dona is a Systems Analyst at Uwohali Incorporated, an minority women owned company. She has been working in the CALS arena since March 1992.

Qualifications:

Dona's main task at Uwohali is working on the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Automation Initiative (MAI) project. This project is the Army's International CALS prototype. The computer system collects MLRS and related data from different sources such as DSREDS, LOGSA, TACOM, TD/CMS, CCSS, CITIS, etc. and funnels that data to the MLRS European Partners in a CALS compliant format. The project must be CALS compliant as the system is complicated by the variety of platforms and software that has been implemented in the US and Europe. Ms Mason is the system analyst and task manager for this project.

Other duties that equips Dona in her leadership role

  • Member of the MLRS Automation Initiative Working Group (MAIWG) that controls the automation of MLRS. This Working Group is responsible for the automation of the MLRS ECP process in which over 150 people in the US and Europe electronically review, comment, and vote on MLRS ECPs. One of tasks assigned to Dona by this group was be the team member responsible for the coordination, creating, and writing of the MLRS Government of Operations (GCO) which is a CALS document describing how MLRS does business. The MAIWG is currently working on a automated CDRL HTML server.
  • Designer and contractor coordinator of the MLRS Foreign National Network. This network allows US based Liaison Officers to be a part of the MLRS computer network with data and e-mail capability. This network is the first network of its type allowed at MICOM. Ms Mason was responsible for the first MLRS HTML Standard Operating Procedures of this system allowing on-line review. This document diagrams responsibilities of the users, managers, and security personnel.
  • Attendee of CALS EXPO 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97 including tutorials in SGML, IDEF, STEP.   Ms Mason presented a paper at CALS EXPO 96, "Developing an Internet Strategy".

In order to accomplish her task, Ms Mason must have knowledge of:

  • Image Standards including: CALS Raster, IGES, CGM, VHDL, etc.
  • Text Standards including SGML, HTML, ASCII, etc.
  • CITIS Standards
  • Data Base Standards including MIL Std 1388-2B
  • MEARS, IADS, CMIS, TD/CMS, DSREDS, CITIS applications

Ms Mason's career includes working as a System Analyst of Government systems that include the computer hardware (including workstations, PCs, Servers, WANS/LANS (NOVELL, TCP/IP, NT and Lantastic)), PC and UNIX based software, and programming. She has a B.S.B.S. in Management of Information Systems from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, June 1991. Other course work includes Windows NT 3.5 and attendance at the AIS Security Procedures for Industry Course(1995).

Dona is married to a Senior Programmer at CSC who is currently working on NT implementations with JAVA, has a son Judah (19) who is majoring at UAH in Computer Engineering, and a daughter Erin (17) who is the Grissom ROTC Battalion Commander. Her hobbies are reading science fiction, writing fiction, and cooking.
