J.R. Contreras, Director

J.R. Contreras is a CALS Specialist in the Automation and CALS Division , Logistics Support Directorate of the Integrated Materiel Management Center. J.R. is the Command's point of contact(POC) for CALS within the MICOM CALS Office and is the POC for Program Office Support. Mr. Contreras has been active in CALS since APR 1990

Qualifications

J.R. spent the summer of 95(3mos) TDY to the Logistics Integration Agency(LIA) formerly SLA. His duties there included:

  • assisting the LIA CALS Office in developing a CALS Desktop Guide for the Army
  • participating on the comments resolution team for the Army CALS Implementation Plan(ACIP)
  • reviewing a draft Commercial CITIS standard for private industry
  • assisting in resolution of comments for the Army on the DOD CALS Master Plan
  • developed CITIS information papers for ODISC4 Office.

Other Duties that equip JR in his leadership role

  • Instrumental in fielding a Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service(CITIS) for the Patriot and MLRS Missile systems. A first at MICOM.
  • Served as the CALS POC for comments to the MIL-HDBK-59B and MIL-STD-974 review process.
  • Managing editor of the CALS Exchange, a Missile Command CALS newsletter.
  • Serves as the CALS POC for MICOM on the Army Materiel Command(AMC) MSC CALS Working Group.
  • Formerly a member of the JCALS Functional Coordinating Group(FCG)
  • Member of the board of directors of the Huntsville CALS Interest Group(HCIG).

After having served 8yrs in the U.S. NAVY, Mr. Contreras entered Civil Service through the AMC Intern Program in JUN85.. Mr. Contreras began his career in the Supply Logistics field in the old Materiel Management Directorate(MMD) of the IMMC. He served on a variety of Tech Staff special projects before moving on to the Maintenance Engineering Directorate, Tech Pubs Division, CALS Office in APR90.

Mr. Contreras graduated from Texas A&M University Kingsville, TX in 1974 with a B.S. in Economics and an MA in Ethnic Studies and Sociology from TEXAS A&M University Corpus Christi TX in 1984.

J.R. and his wife, Irma have three children, Stephen, Matthew, and Samantha.
