The Legacy Data Management course turned into an intriguing round table
of ideas on legacy data as well as what is being done in the CALS Community. If you missed
this event, you missed top leaders in Huntsville discussing their views of what and how
new technology will shape the future.
Many of the problems of Legacy data management were discussed with hands
on views from today's implementers. Discussions ranged from legacy databases that are
critical to implementation to Internet connections to old systems. The Internet was a big
focus for this discussion as more companies are moving to intra and internet browsers to
display data.
Also discussed was the small businessman/woman of Huntsville and how
technology could reach out to them. There are many systems that change dynamically such as
lumber prices that are needed by contractors. It was discussed how internet connections
could help these people.
With us to discuss were Jim
Duhig, of the Atlanta Electronic Commerce Resource Center and Neil Hall a research engineer with the
ECRC. They brought an overview of what is happening in the region as well as individual
companies that are implementing systems. They handed out a list of companies with phone
numbers/internet addresses that comprise a wide range of categories. They also handed out
some CALS internet addresses.
Sponsored by the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association
(AFCEA)
